Beats

What Are Royalty Split Beats?
Quick answer

A royalty-split beat is licensed in exchange for an agreed share of revenue from the song you make with it.

What Are Beat Stems?
Quick answer

Stems are separate audio parts of an instrumental, such as drums, bass and melodies. They give you more control when mixing a vocal with the beat.

What does 'free for profit' mean when using beats?
Quick answer

You can create a commercial song without an upfront licensing fee under the applicable royalty-split agreement. Free upfront does not mean copyright-free.

Do I need to give credit to the producer when using a free-for-profit beat?
Quick answer

Follow the producer credit requirements in your beat license. Keep the correct producer name with your release information.

Can I monetize my music on platforms like YouTube, Spotify, or Apple Music?

Can I perform live using a track that contains a free-for-profit beat?
Quick answer

Check that your beat license covers your planned live performance. A free download alone is not proof of performance permission.

Can I make changes to a beat I downloaded (e.g., remixing, adding effects)?
Quick answer

Review the license for permitted edits. Changing the arrangement or sound does not remove the producer’s rights or the agreed royalty obligations.

Is there a difference between a free-for-profit beat and a leased beat?
Quick answer

The labels describe different offers, but the actual agreement decides the fee, royalties, exclusivity and permitted uses.

How do I delete my account?
Quick answer

Use Delete Account in your account settings. Your account and public profile are deactivated straight away, and you can restore it for 180 days by signing in again. After that, personal information we no longer need is deleted or anonymised. Records needed for licenses and royalty splits, transactions, fraud and abuse prevention, disputes or legal obligations are kept. Deleting and recreating an account does not reset free downloads, credits, trials or other one-time benefits you have used.

Can I recover a deleted account?
Quick answer

Yes, for 180 days after you delete it. Sign in with the same email or sign-in method and BeatSplit will ask whether you want to restore the account. It is only restored if you confirm.

Licenses

What is a beat license?
Quick answer

A beat license is the agreement that sets out how you may use an instrumental and what obligations apply to your release.

What are the different types of licenses available?
Quick answer

Review the license and download options shown for the beat. Audio formats, membership benefits and legal permissions are related but separate parts of the offer.

How long does a license last?
Quick answer

Check the duration and termination provisions in your issued beat license. Membership billing periods do not by themselves define a beat license’s duration.

Can I transfer my license to someone else?
Quick answer

Do not assume you can transfer your beat license. Check the named licensee and the agreement’s transfer restrictions before another person uses it.

Do I need a license to perform live with a beat?
Quick answer

Have permission that covers the live use you plan. A free event does not automatically remove the need for a beat license.

What happens if I use a beat without a license?
Quick answer

Using an instrumental without the required permission can lead to rights disputes or a release being challenged. Resolve licensing before publishing.

Is the beat removed from the website if I get a license?
Quick answer

A non-exclusive license allows other artists to license the same instrumental. It does not normally remove the beat from the catalog.
